Digital Communications Specialist – Content Creator

The Digital Communications Specialist is responsible for contributing to the creative team for development and growth of the organization’s digital presence. As a member of the communications team, they work cross-functionally to capture video & audio, video editing, creation of digital communication content, graphic design, website updates, WordPress, email blasts, social media, and organization of created content.

The specialist will work strategically with the External Relations Manager in order to support WCC’s video content creation; execute website updates; e-mail-communications to the organization’s broad base of constituents; e-newsletters; digital marketing; provides detailed analytics on digital communications; and plays an active role in social media updates to specific platforms. The Digital Communications Specialist serves as key personnel for all digital communications needs at Warrior Canine Connection. 

Duties and Responsibilities

Work collaboratively within communications department to develop messaging, create visual content, and increase visibility through digital and traditional marketing, social media, and communications. Assist in the development of multimedia content and maintain the organization’s website and digital presence, including generating visual content for campaigns, online features, and digitizing materials. Create strategy, management and implementation plans for WCC’s digital media accounts including Google business, YouTube and Vimeo accounts.

Assist in development, execution, and electronic distribution of special web and digital projects such as video content to support WCC programming and organizational needs. Serve as in-house analytics expert to measure web traffic; monitor and report on SEO/SEM and email analytics. Prepare reports on engagement, trends and insights, offering analysis and conclusions to help drive content decisions. Research new developments in digital online marketing and participate in trainings to insure WCC is using the most innovative, affordable, and appropriate strategies.

Assist in creation and electronic distribution of bi-monthly newsletter via Mailchimp email marketing platform. Develop and update design templates for digital and print collateral (emails, invitations, infographics, e-newsletters, business cards, etc.) to create ease of use for internal partners, and brand cohesion for external users. Create and maintain organization’s digital photo and video library for digital projects to include photo tagging, cataloging, etc. Troubleshoot for Explore.org camera problems as they arise. Other duties as assigned. 

Required experience, skills, background

  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in marketing, new media, video, communications, journalism, or similar.
  • Experience in multiple social media platforms and social media advertising.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere a plus.
  • Understanding of WordPress, Web Updates, and Mailchimp a plus.
  • Knowledge of SEO/SEM, keyword research, and Google Analytics.
  • Strong people skills; ability to engage with a broad base of supporters, subscribers, and interested individuals with enthusiasm and professionalism.
  • Strong visual and written communication skills; ability to create engaging content using writing, video, photography and design.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; strong project management skills.
  • Ability to juggle multiple deadlines within the context of an editorial calendar.
  • Ability to support crowdfunding campaigns.
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities and responsibilities.
  • Ability to collaborate as a team and assume additional responsibilities when required.
  • Flexibility with a work schedule in support of deadlines and events.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Strong familiarity with the military community.
  • Experience with Salesforce or similar Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems.
  • Familiarity with electronic file sharing applications.

    Warrior Canine Connection (WCC) is a pioneer in the use of service of training therapy for Warriors with Psychological injuries. By utilizing its Mission Based Trauma Recovery (MBTR) model, WCC supports recovering combat Veterans and their families. WCC provides Warriors a regained sense of purpose through the opportunity to engage in a critical military support mission while simultaneously receiving treatment for their own symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress (PTS) and Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI). Based on the time-honored tradition of Warriors helping Warriors, their mission is to train highly-skilled service dogs that provide years of mobility and social support to Veterans with disabilities.
