SSUP, Md. — Opening the door for a disabled veteran?

No problem.

A Labrador retriever named “Wes” is in training to someday help a veteran with visible or invisible wounds through a program called Warrior Canine Connection at the maximum-security prison in Jessup and his trainer is a veteran as well, but he happens to be incarcerated. ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — Puppy parents to help puppies grow into veteran service dogs are in demand in Asheville, and it’s for a worthy cause.

Jimmy Stewart Museum in Indiana County working to provide veteran with service dog

INDIANA, Pa. — The Jimmy Stewart Museum is working with The Warrior Canine Connection to provide a veteran in need with a service dog.

The museum is sponsoring their service dog, “Jimmy,” who was named in honor of Jimmy Stewart’s service in World War II. Check out the full story on WPXI 11 News.

GLEN BURNIE, Md. — A group who trains puppies to be service dogs for veterans is getting some much needed help of their own.

On Wednesday Warrior Canine Connection received a new mini-van.

Maryland’s veterans secretary on suicide prevention; Training service dogs for service members

Preventing suicide among veterans is personal for state Secretary of Veteran Affairs’ Anthony Woods. He lost his mother, an Air Force veteran, to suicide five years ago. We hear how Woods is expanding the reach of mental-health services. Read Woods’ commentary in the Baltimore Banner.
